The Columbia Rifles Research Compendium

This book is the second one in our list published with the assistance of The Watchdog as part of an effort to inprove the historical accuracy of reenactors. It is loaded with information and is certainly not "a light read" (it weighs in at more than three pounds).

Although there are some elements that focus primarily upon union impressions, these are in the minority. Most of the book is useful for all soldiers, including confederates. Just a sampling of the topics include muskets, tents, gear carried by the soldiers, bivouacs, how to act when wounded, food, tips for understanding your life before the army, and help in doing a first-person impression. However, there should also be a warning included -- be prepared to have some cherished beliefs challenged.

Our conclusion is that, if you are a reenacting soldier who is trying to do an historically accurate portrayal, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book.

437 pages. 8 1/2 by 11 inch format. Paperbound.
