This little book was probably the first textbook for countless
numbers of students in the 19th century. It takes the student from letters in
both Roman and Italic through single words and concludes with some simple reading
passages. Of the simple reading passages, many of them have a reference to God or a
moral tone -- a feature missing from modern textbooks. Almost all of the words in the
book are of only one syllable.
